    FAQs

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who ask for help weak?

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are in a better place, others may struggle to see past how you were during that difficult time.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Medication can be effective. For some, medication is needed in conjunction with therapy. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on the strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.

What is teletherapy and is it appropriate for everyone?

Teletherapy is counseling that occurs between a licensed therapist and a client who are not in the same physical location. It is often more convenient and allows the client to experience counseling in the comfort of a private space they choose. Clients may choose video conferencing or telephonic communication with some limitations. Teletherapy may not be appropriate for individuals in some specific high risk situations or those with acute mental health needs.

Is it safe and secure to do online therapy?

I use a video conferencing platform called Simple Practice that has met the gold standard for security in healthcare organizations. Information is transmitted through multiple layers of encryption to safeguard sensitive information.

What do I have to do in sessions?

During our first session, I will ask you a some questions to better understand what you are struggling with, what you would like to change in your life, and how I can best help. We will develop a plan to help guide our future sessions. Because each person has different issues and goals, the process will vary depending on the individual. I tailor my approach to your specific needs.

    How long will it take?

Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them. Sessions are typically 50 minutes. The frequency and duration of sessions depends on your needs, your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy.

Who can you work with online?

I am licensed to provide therapy for persons in Alabama, Georgia and Indiana. Consulting services are available nationwide.

    What is your cancellation Policy?

I require 24-hour notice of cancellation or need to reschedule. If I do not receive notice of cancellation within 24-hours of our scheduled session, you will be charged the no-show fee for our session.

I want to get the most out of our time. What can I do to help?
